Mental Health and Wellbeing First Aid Training
Giving you the ability to have Wellbeing First Aiders in your workplace

As part of our Group Life and Income Protection offering, you can access two complementary places on a full day workshop with the Island’s leading mental health charitable organisation, Isle Listen*.
The Mental Health and Wellbeing First Aid workshop provides members of your workforce with a comprehensive understanding of mental health and builds participants’ confidence when it comes to providing support to someone who may be struggling with a mental health issue. The training also clarifies role boundaries and builds support options so that you are never dealing with a situation beyond your control.
* These services are provided directly by Isle Listen and are not provided by Zurich International Life. The service does not form part of an insurance contract.
Course overview
This workshop will help attendees develop a supportive response to people struggling with their emotional wellbeing and who may need help. They will learn how to practise supportive listening, use appreciative questioning techniques, build rapport and explore all the options to balance their own wellbeing needs. Additionally, they will understand the limits of their role and identify when and how to escalate to appropriate sources of support.
Topics covered on this one-day workshop are:
What is mental health?
What is first aid?
What are my responsibilities?
When do I hand over?
How do I have tricky conversations?
What next?
Preparation for and promotion of the role.

Who should attend?
This Mental Health and Wellbeing First Aid workshop can benefit many people in your organisation but is particularly key for anyone in a supportive role (i.e managers, supervisors or HR), or anyone keen to provide peer support for their colleagues. Attendees will not be trained as therapists or counsellors. Their role is to provide low-level intervention techniques, within strict boundaries. Please contact Isle Listen directly with any questions around who should attend the workshop.
More about Isle Listen
Isle Listen is a trading name of MCH Psychological Services, an Isle of Man registered charity (1024) with over 40 years’ experience of providing emotional and psychological support. Through work commissioned by Manx Care, Isle Listen provides vital one-to-one therapeutic mental health support to young people up to 18 years of age. This service is led by qualified and accredited therapists. Alongside this, Isle Listen’s charitable work focuses on a preventative lifelong mental health education and training.
Starting in Primary Schools we put key building blocks in place, and then develop and expand understanding through Secondary School, with education around specific, age relevant issues, making young people more resilient and able to deal with the issues they will face throughout their lives. In the wider community and workplaces, our mental health training gives individuals skills they can use to benefit their own mental health, as well as their colleagues, families and communities.
Isle Listen workshops are based on a good practice psychological model of early intervention and prevention. We know that prevention is the best way to encourage individuals to manage their own mental wellbeing, but it can be difficult at times to know where to go. Therefore, the importance of early intervention training for managers and individuals should be considered by all organisations for success.
MCH Psychological Services is an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy 00275531 (BACP).
